Free Program to be Held November 9, 2007 in Clayton "Divorce: Empowering the Pastoral Staff"

Clayton, MO (PRWEB) October 25, 2007 -- With close to 50% of all marriages ending in divorce, more and more people affected by divorce are turning to their pastors or pastoral staff for support. "Too often, pastoral staff gives incorrect information about divorce and the constituent is harmed as a result. Our free program will help to change that," says Clayton, Missouri Family Law Attorney Leigh Joy Carson.

"Divorce: Empowering the Pastoral Staff" is a free educational program for clergy and their staff that will be held on November 9, 2007 from 9 a.m. until noon in Clayton. "The program is not intended to make pastoral staff equipped to give legal advice," says organizer Leigh Joy Carson. "Rather, we want to share some basic information and some ways to help, not hurt, families within the faith community that are affected by divorce.

The program features Leigh Joy Carson, a family law attorney, The Honorable Thomas J. Frawley, Administrative Judge and Head of the Family Court for the City of St. Louis and Rev. Dr. Mark Robinson, an ordained minister and licensed therapist. The speakers represent three different aspects of a divorce: the advocate, the decision-maker and the counselor.

Program attendees will learn what the legal community wishes their parishioners knew and things they should not have been told as well as how to give effective support for the family from the pastoral perspective. The presentations will focus on practical tips not only on what information should and should not be given, but also address how silence can be misinterpreted and what can happen as a result.

There will be a question and answer period after each speaker's presentation and there will be time after the program has ended for informal discussion with the speakers.
